Pueblo police looking into death involving structure fire near Massari Road

The Pueblo Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 0-100 block of Massari Road Monday night.

When crews arrived they discovered that a man tried to extinguish a fire at his home and while doing so he discovered the body of his deceased 76-year-old father who lived with him.

According to the man, when he arrived home, he noticed the smoke coming from inside the home and found the fire inside the kitchen area.

The Pueblo Chieftain reports the victim’s identity has not yet been released.

Police detectives and arson investigators from the Pueblo Fire Department and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation examined the scene, determining the fire was caused by accident. Authorities say a discarded cigarette possibly started the blaze.
