Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office arrest suspect in connection to Thursday shooting

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 26-year-old in connection to a shooting outside a funeral Thursday morning.

The shooting happened outside the St. Joseph Church on South Aspen Road in Blende. Witnesses say Ford Escape followed a black Chrysler into the parking lot.

The people inside the car started shouting at each other. That’s when someone inside the Ford opened fire. Both cars then sped away from the scene.

Thanks to witness descriptions, detectives found the Chrysler at a home on the city’s East Side. The men inside were questioned about the incident.

The investigations then led deputies to Leonard “Lenny” Rodriguez. Police arrested him Thursday afternoon on Bonforte Boulevard without incident.

Rodriguez is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of felony menacing, two counts of reckless endangerment, and possession of a weapon by a previous offender and possession of a Schedule 1 controlled substance.

He’s been booked into Pueblo County Jail.

The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
