Blue Wave surges in Colorado after Midterm Elections

Colorado Democrats are celebrating a major victory in Tuesday’s Midterm Election. The Democrats not only won the Governors seat, but also the State Treasurer, Secretary of State, and Attorney General.

They also now have a majority in the State Senate and held onto their majority in the house. Democrat Daneya Esgar, who won her re-election for House District 46, says she is not surprised by the blue wave that engulfed the state.

“I think that the people of Colorado have spoken and the people of Colorado really truly just want to move forward and take care of each other,” said Esgar.

With the trifecta of Democrats in the House, Senate, and Governor’s office, it could mean left-leaning agendas like State-run healthcare and gun control legislation could be fast-tracked.

“Thing’s that we have really been trying to get through, I think we might have an opportunity to really work hard now and really make Colorado an even better state,” said Esgar.

She does add that just because Democrats have the majority, doesn’t mean that they still need to listen to the rest of Colorado.

Paul Lundeen agrees. He was just elected to the Senate District 9 seat. He says if the left does try to push their agenda onto the state, in the next election there could be consequences for that.

“If the big win gets people from the Democrat side moving too far too fast and they get ahead of where the people of Colorado are, the pendulum will swing back,” Lundeen said.

He says this means that if things go too far, there could be a new majority in the legislature in 2020.
