Wind alert overnight – 11/04/18

Tonight: This evening, I expect gusts to increase – primarily over and near the mountains. Over the Continental Divide and surrounding peaks, there could be gusts at or exceeding 50-55 mph. There will be areas of blowing snow, reduced visibility and winter traveling in the central and northern mountains. That’s where we find Winter Weather Advisories that continue until noon Monday. Elsewhere in southern Colorado, gusts could reach 30-40 mph in the lower elevations overnight. Thus, we have a Wind Alert Level One. It’s all due to a disturbance and associated cold front that will be blasting through the state overnight. There’s a tiny chance for some sprinkles falling overnight, but I suspect that most stay dry. Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected. Lows will be dipping to the 20s and 30s into early Monday morning.

Tomorrow: It will be blustery early Monday! However, I’m expecting winds to subside somewhat in the lower elevations by mid-morning (perhaps by 9 a.m.); even still, strong gusts could continue over the local mountain communities. Temperatures will be slightly below-average. Lots of sunshine is expected which is typical after a cold front passes.

Extended: Temperatures will be below-the-norm throughout our seven day forecast. It may be gusty Tuesday and Wednesday due to the jet stream being directly overhead. Late Wednesday and into Thursday, we have a small chance for some rain and snow. Models are disagreeing as to the intensity and coverage of precipitation, so stick with us for developing updates in the days to come. Right now, temperatures look to stay cold on Thursday! We should warm things up a bit next weekend, but even then – there’s uncertainty in the forecast. Enjoy the week!
