One person dead following car crash near downtown Colorado Springs

A man has died and one person has been taken to the hospital following a car crash near downtown Colorado Springs Friday morning.

Police responded to the intersection of Nevada and Cimarron at 6:30 a.m. for a two-car crash. Upon arrival, police found a man ejected from a car and a mother and a child in another car.

The man ejected, died on the scene and was traveling alone in his car. The mother and child were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Major Accident Unit has assumed responsibility of the investigation and has questioned witnesses about the light cycle at the intersection.

The fatal crash comes less than two days after the record for traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs was broken.
