Colorado Springs man who walked flag for 12 hours on 9/11 identified as crash victim
The 44th person to die on the roads in Colorado Springs this year has been identified as Criss Seal, a man who made headlines on Sept. 11 for his moving tribute.
Seal walked for 12 hours along Academy and Galley with a United States Flag on 9/11. He was known for walking that corner since the tragic incident happened.
He was father to 10 children most of whom sat down and spoke with KRDO today. His oldest daughter, Kyla Gonzales said, “I think we’re angry we lost our father. I think we’re angry, we’re hurt that we’re going through the loss of someone’s life whether that be our father or anybody’s life.”

Police say Seal was not in a crosswalk when was crossing the intersection near Academy and Austin Bluffs on Halloween night. The driver then fled the scene.
Another one of his daughters said, “even if you’re in a rush and you’ve got to get somewhere, it’s a little bit safer to be 10 yards away and use the crosswalk that was made for crossing the street.”
Seal was attempting to cross North Academy Boulevard when he was hit.
Police say the driver responsible for the crash has been arrested and identified as Robert M. Valencia. He will be charged with one count of Accidents Involving Death.
Seal’s death broke the record of total traffic deaths in one year, which was set in 1986.
Tonight, Seal’s family will be holding a candlelight vigil on the corner of Academy and Galley where he used to walk on 9/11. The event begins at 6:30 p.m.
