Colorado Springs police identify mother allegedly murdered by son

Colorado Springs police have identified the woman who was allegedly killed by her son last week at an apartment off S. Chelton Road.

Police say Judy Smith, 47, was found dead Friday inside the apartment, and investigators found evidence that her son was the killer. Smith’s cause of death hasn’t been released.

Later that day, 24-year-old Lake Smith was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder. We still don’t know what could have led to the killing. No more arrests are expected.

Police said Lake Smith’s mugshot would be available soon.

Colorado Springs police said Friday that a death is being investigated near Academy Boulevard and Chelton Road.

No other details were given, but the department spokesperson was reportedly on his way to the Summit Creek Apartments, near 1900 S. Chelton Road. ( MAP ) A female was found dead inside an apartment.

At this point, it’s not clear if this is a homicide investigation or if there’s any threat to the public, but police are calling the death suspicious.
