Parents upset after Nebraska school district serves kangaroo meat in students’ chili

A public school superintendent is apologizing after a school cook added kangaroo meat to the chili he was serving for lunch that day.

According to ABC Action News, the superintendent for Potter-Dox Public Schools, Mike Williams, sent out a newsletter to parents with the following statement, “we will no way be serving food of this nature again. Period.”

Williams added the main chef added the exotic meat to the chili because it was “a very lean meat.”

Action News reports the superintendent told concerned parents he doesn’t think the kangaroo meat was unhealthy or dangerous for students because it meets USDA standards, but it was “without a doubt not a normal staple of our diet.”
