Preventing your lawn from dying this winter

Before we know it, our gorgeous greenery in southern Colorado will start turning brown. How can you prevent your grass from dying this winter?

Once we get more consistent cold winter weather, grass and vegetation will become dormant. This is when things get dry and brown. Of course, lawns can also go from dormant to dead entirely. It’s difficult to distinguish between dormant and dead grass – they look similar.

To keep you lawn alive this upcoming winter, make sure to water your lawn once a month. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself in a pickle.

“So that’s when we’re in a tough spot. You either have to replace the sod if you want to go the sod route or you have to reseed and just really heal your lawn after that. That’s why preventative is best in Colorado,” said Weisburg Landscape Maintenance Operations Administrator Jasmine Grubb.

Each month, your grass needs a couple inches of water, whether that’s from your sprinklers or snowfall.
