Police to test system, gunshot sounds expected in Colorado Springs neighborhoods

The Colorado Springs Police Department is expected to conduct a live-fire calibration of the gunshot detection system on Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

The controlled tests will consist of a series of gunshots followed by a validation of sound detection by the system.

A bullet trap will be used to ensure public safety during the tests, police say no bullets will be fired into the air or ground.

CSPD said there will be no danger to the public.

Residents in the Valley Hi, Park Hill and Pikes Peak Park neighborhoods may hear gunshots from the calibration process.
