It’s happening near McBurney Blvd. and Willis Drive. (MAP) The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office hasn’t identified the suspect, but deputies were negotiating with a man inside a house there Tuesday afternoon.

The sheriff’s office says deputies were attempting to serve a felony domestic violence summons and additional misdemeanor warrants. When deputies arrived, the suspect barricaded himself inside. He told deputies he’s not willing to come out.

According to a KRDO crew at the scene, bomb squad officers arrived by about 4:50 p.m. There’s no word on explosives being present, but deputies say the bomb squad was called as a precaution.

Police told passersby to not get in the “line of fire” while negotiations were ongoing. Neighbors along McBurney Blvd. were evacuated as a precaution.

The sheriff’s office says deputies believe the man is the only person inside the house; there’s no indication that the suspect has any firearms.

Venetucci Elementary School was placed under lockdown due to the ongoing standoff.
