Marty’s Sunday Morning Forecast – Cool & Unsettled – 10/7/18
Today: Cloudy this morning with some patchy fog and drizzle, then partly to mostly cloudy this afternoon with increasing wind. Late in the day scattered showers may start developing over and near the mountains. We should remain cool today with high temperatures in the 40s and 50s for the Pikes Peak Region with some areas along and south of the Arkansas River warming into the 60s.
Tonight: Scattered showers and thunderstorms should become more widespread over the area this evening. Some of our local mountain communities may receive some wet snow at times tonight, but the snow levels will remain pretty high and we don’t expect significant impacts to travelers though a few areas may notice a little snow on cooler surfaces by morning. Precipitation should be winding down by morning, but areas of low cloud cover and patchy fog may remain. We expect low temperatures mostly in the 30s and 40s, but a few mountain areas may fall into the 20s by morning.
Extended: Wet snow should fall over the higher terrain around the Pikes Peak Region Monday morning with cooler surfaces possibly becoming snow covered in some areas generally above 7000 feet. Some roadways in Teller county could whiten briefly if the snow falls heavily enough for long enough, but main roadways will probably remain wet/slushy for most of this event. Scattered rain and snow showers may continue over the area through Monday night, but it looks less widespread than what we’ll have over the area tonight into Monday morning. On Tuesday the air aloft will be cold enough to support snow as low as parts of Colorado Springs, but right now it doesn’t appear we should expect widespread precipitation, probably just some intermittent showers/flakes. Wednesday and Thursday should be drier, warmer and windy at times. Another cold front looks to arrive Thursday night into Friday dropping temperatures and possibly bringing more rain and snow to the state.
