Cool and active Monday – 10/07/18

Tonight: Cloudy skies stick around overnight with lows tumbling to the 30s and 40s early Monday morning. Scattered showers and storms are possible this evening. In fact, a few could be strong to severe near the Raton Mesa and far southeastern corner of the state. Large hail and damaging gusts are possible where these isolated severe storms crop up. These storms could continue past midnight with showers becoming widespread across southern Colorado tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow: Early Monday, cloudy skies and patches of fog will develop. It will be cold early tomorrow morning as you’re getting to work and school! Definitely bundle up. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible throughout the day, so keep the umbrella handy. Highs tomorrow are only expected to range in the 40s and 50s; however, models very much diverge on temperatures tomorrow (a spread greater than 20 degrees!). I’m opting for the cooler outcome as cloudy skies and a cold front will lock in chilly air. There could be some widespread rain tomorrow, and I even can’t rule out some snowflakes into Teller County. Even still, there’s uncertainty in this as temperatures will be likely too warm to support snow. However, we’ll track the latest developments for you.

Extended: Temperatures overnight Monday into Tuesday will support snow in Colorado Springs, but models are starting to dry up late Monday and early Tuesday…bottom line, chances are decreasing that we’ll see snow during this time frame. A Freeze Watch is in effect during this window for much of El Paso County and the San Luis Valley. Another frost/freeze is a possibility Wednesday morning. Thursday and Friday offer some isolated showers and storms. Look for relatively warmer and windier weather Wednesday and Thursday before a cold front late Thursday drops temperatures Friday.
