Active weather ahead – 10/06/18

Tonight: Highs today have been 25-30 degrees cooler compared to what we experienced yesterday! That’s due to a late cold front Friday evening. In the wake of that front, it’s been partly to mostly cloudy along the I-25 corridor with increasing sunshine farther east. Rain and snow will be ongoing over the Continental Divide tonight, surrounding mountains and western slope (precipitation will be in the form of rain for the latter). Meanwhile, most in the lower elevations stay dry. However, spotty showers are possible along the Raton Mesa and southeastern plains tomorrow morning. Speaking of Sunday morning, we’ll be seeing some low clouds and fog along and east of the I-25 corridor.. Temperatures early tomorrow will be chilly – ranging in the 30s and 40s. Light drizzle is possible where we see low clouds develop, too.

Tomorrow: Most of the low clouds should clear by mid-morning (perhaps 9 a.m.), but the cloudy skies could stick around through midday in the Pikes Peak region. Regardless of the exact timing, we should see some more sunshine in the afternoon. Highs will be crisp in the 50s and 60s. Temperatures will be dependent upon when clouds break up. Isolated to scattered showers are possible; even still, these will be primarily confined to the mountains.

Extended: Between today and Tuesday, there will be periods of high country snow. Over the SW mountains and San Juans, there could be totals up to a foot the next few days. Atop the Sangres and Wet mountains, 4-8″ are possible. Monday evening, there’s a small chance for some snowflakes in Woodland Park; however, there’s a better chance for some snow in Teller County and northern El Paso County overnight Monday and early Tuesday morning. Most of the accumulations will be on grassy areas, but wet and slick roads could cause some travel issues. We’ll track it. Isolated to scattered showers are expected Monday and Tuesday. We’ll get a break from showers Wednesday before we get another round of unsettled weather on Thursday. Southern Colorado will then get some sunnier and drier weather for next weekend.
