All six Colorado Springs officers released from hospital following police training explosion

UPDATE: All six Colorado Springs Police Officers have been treated and released from an area hospital following an accidental explosion while training on Fort Carson.

CSPD Lt. Howard Black said the last CSPD officer has been released from the hospital. Black says his injuries were minor, and was kept for observation.

Col. Brian Wortinger, Fort Carson Garrison Commander said that the explosion was a small explosive used for training by Fort Carson soldiers that was accidentally detonated by CSPD officers during their training.

While many entities use The Mountain Post to train, Wortinger said it’s believed another military unit was last at the training center. Fort Carson is now investigating which unit it was, when they were there and why the device was there while CSPD was training Tuesday.

“Unfortunately the business both we are in and CSPD is in is an inherently dangerous business and the training itself can often be dangerous as well. But we absolutely do everything we can to minimize those dangers and we will certainly take the opportunity to do that through this investigation,” Wortinger said.
