Suspects carjack woman in DIA parking lot
Suspects opened fire at officers and stole a car with a woman inside from the Pikes Peak parking lot at the Denver International Airport early Wednesday morning.
KDVR reports, two vehicles were stolen from a Hertz Rent-A Car facility on 78th Ave. around 1 a.m. The vehicles were then abandoned nearby with flat tires.
Police say they attempted to stop the suspects at about 1:15 a.m. in the 24700 block of East 75th Ave. southwest of the airport. The suspects shot at the officers and were able to get away by foot. According to a police spokesman, officers were not struck and did not return fire.
Police set up a perimeter to search for the suspects, who were described as males, when reports came in that a woman was carjacked in the Pikes Peak parking lot.
The suspects took the woman in her silver BMW. The woman was either forced out of the car or got out on her own in the 4400 block of Havana Street about 13 miles from the parking lot.
She was taken to a hospital with a head laceration and is expected to be okay. Police found the vehicle unoccupied in the 1600 block of North Ulster Street, about five miles from where the woman got out of the vehicle, about 3 a.m.
The Pikes Peak lot was closed for about two hours and reopened at 3:30 a.m.
Police are continuing to look for the suspects and have not provided a detailed description of them.
