Man convicted of sexual assault in Colorado confesses to Connecticut murder

A man convicted of sexual assault in Colorado has admitted to killing a woman in Simsbury, Connecticut.

WTNH, the ABC affiliate in Hartford, says William Leverett went into the police station Sunday morning and told them he was responsible for killing 54-year-old Melissa Millan in 2014. She was jogging along a popular trail when Leverett reportedly stabbed her.

Her body was later found by police but no suspects were arrested. The murder haunted joggers for years after it happened. Stephanie Famiano from Windsor told WTIC, “I think about things and I do feel a little spooked but I run with my pepper spray and I feel like I’m equipped to defend myself if I have to.”

KRDO found Leverett registered as a sex offender in Connecticut. He was convicted of sexual assault against a child in 2011 in Colorado.

The Hartford Courant is reporting Leverett led police to a bloody glove that he’s kept hidden over the last four years to prove it was him that killed Millan.

WTNH is reporting the attack on Millan appeared to be random. He was arraigned in a county court Monday morning.
