Pueblo neighbors outraged as suspected car thief flees

Pueblo police are looking to identify a suspicious person caught on camera in front of a home following reports of several car break-ins in the area.

“I received an alert there was motion in my driveway,” said Ryan Strubel, who lives along Solar drive on the city’s southwest side. “They were looking through cars with flashlights to see if they could break in.”

Pueblo police received reports of a suspicious person in the 4100 block of Solar Drive.

The next morning Strubel said his car was broken into and trashed.

“It had been unlocked and all of my insurance papers had been dumped on the floorboard,” he said.

Strubel explains it’s been happening almost every night in their neighborhood.

“I’ve called the police at least 12 times in the past month about these suspicious encounters,” Strubel said.

Pueblo police officer Brandon Beauvais explains the recent spike is growing city-wide.

“It’s happening on a daily basis,” he said.

In less than 60 days, Pueblo police reported nearly 150 car break-ins city wide. Coinciding with car thefts, where up until June there have been more than 560 stolen cars reported.

“It’s why more and more homeowners are installing security cameras,” said Strubel.

But the added protection doesn’t always solve the problem.

“The suspects are still getting away,” Strubel said. “It’s usually a car with no license plate or it has a license plate that doesn’t match.”
