Pueblo police make an arrest in shooting near Briarwood Park, victim in critical condition

Pueblo police officers arrested a suspect they believed to be involved in a shooting which occurred on the 2000th block of Carlee Drive, near Briarwood Park Wednesday.

When officers arrived, they were able found 23-year-old Daniel Vaughn, who appeared to have been shot in the abdomen. The victim was taken to the hospital suffering from what was described as life-threatening injuries.

That’s when patrol officers and detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Section began searching for 28-year-old Mariano Rael, who was believed to have been a possible suspect.

Authorities were able to locate Rael walking into an apartment complex on the 400th block of W. Routt Avenue a short time after the incident. Officers were able to surround Rael and take him into custody without incident.

Rael has been booked inside the Pueblo County Detention Center where he faces Attempted 1st Degree Murder charges.

At last update, we were told Vaughn was listed in critical condition. Police are still investigating what exactly took place leading up to the shooting. We will continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available.
