New snowplow drivers for Colorado Springs get training

Giving snowplows plenty of room to work will be even more important in the coming snow season with the arrival of new drivers for street crews in Colorado Springs.

The city can send up to 40 plows out during an snow event and nearly half of the drivers are new.

On Wednesday, crews began a two-day training course at a facility on the city’s east side.

New drivers will be paired with veteran drivers to learn how to safely and effectively drive a truck with snow removal equipment attached.

A supervisor says a snowplow driver isn’t normally a high-turnover job but the city is replacing drivers who have retired or left for other reasons.
