Man in Reagan mask robs Colorado Springs antique store

It may sound like a scene from the movie Point Break, but Colorado Springs police are looking for a man who donned a disguise of a deceased president and held up a downtown antique store.

The robbery happened Tuesday evening near S. Wahsatch and Colorado avenues. A police report says a man wore a Ronald Reagan mask and brandished a knife inside the store. No one was injured.

Faux-Reagan used a crowbar to open up the cash register and took an unknown amount of cash inside a drawer before he took off on a bicycle, according to police.

In the surveillance video, the suspect walks in and shamelessly waves at the workers he is about to rob. The owner of the shop, Jason Carr says it all happened in less than a minute and it didn’t seem like some random robbery.

“I believe this is a person who has done this type of crime before. I believe that this is someone who has been in the store before and had a look at our operation,” said Carr.

He also believes it could have been one of his customers. As Carr watched the clips over again, he says that he is trying not to get emotional about the situation. His daughter was one of those behind the counter as the incident unfolded.

“I’m worried about my daughter, and how she is feeling and what sort of emotional impact this is going to have on her moving forward,” Carr said.

The owner wasn’t there at the time of the robbery. He openly carries in his store. It’s possible if he was there at the time, this situation could have turned out differently.
