Living hail: Fountain homes still under tarps 3 months after storms

Three months after the first of many hailstorms wreaked havoc in Fountain, homes are still damaged and covered with tarps.

That means the storm cleanup efforts are still underway for many homeowners.

Looking around the neighborhood it may almost seem like you’re looking at it after June and August’s hail storms, but it’s been three months.

It’s damage you can still find on Steve Gobea’s home after golf ball-sized hail pummeled it.

Because so many are in this same situation, Gobea has to wait until October when his roofer has an opening.

“The process is long but just knowing that it will be fixed is good to know,” he said.

Kayla Ferris, who lives right next door wishes she would have waited to make repairs.

“The mud splashback made the houses look worse than they really were because it would hit the ground and mud and grass would splash up, so it looked so much worse,” she said.

Right after fixing her roof in June, she was hit by more hail during August’s storm.

“That second storm came in and re-did the roof, took the rest of the gutters, totaled this car. So we’re working on three cars, two roofs, gutters, and a whole new paint job and siding,” she said.

Even for homeowners who were lucky enough to have their brand new roofs spared, the recovery process is still nowhere near done.

“I still have drywall, like the ceiling that needs to be pulled out. French doors that need to be replaced because the casing broke, it was costly. It was scary,” said Nicole Yarber who lives in Fountain.

It’s a lot to fix and many are hoping it gets done sooner rather than later.
