Record heat today – 09/18/18

Tonight: Both Colorado Springs and Pueblo have broken records for high temperatures today! We’ve had lots of sunshine as well with some gorgeous puffy cumulus clouds. We’ve been so hot the last week as southern Colorado has been under the influence of a persistent ridge of high pressure. That’s what has kept our weather so stable. Overnight, temperatures bottom out in the 50s and 60s under mostly clear skies. We’ll be dry.

Tomorrow: A cold front rolls in Wednesday evening. This will spark scattered storms. It will also shave off our temperatures by a few degrees. It will certainly still be warm, but we don’t have the same likelihood of meeting or exceeding any records. Highs will range in the 80s and 90s in the lower elevations. Right now, it doesn’t appear as if storms will be severe, but there could be some bursts of heavy rain with gusts to 50 mph and lightning.

Extended: Scattered showers and storms are possible into Thursday as well. Temperatures will drop further; highs will be closer to seasonal temperatures. Those highs drop even MORE on Friday! In fact, temperatures at that point in time will be below average numbers! Isolated showers and thunderstorms are a possibility Friday as well. Remember, it’s the autumn equinox on Saturday and weather will be mild and quiet. A note: fire danger will be dropping later this work week due to increasing relative humidity levels. Even still, there could be gusts from time-to-time.
