Hurricane Florence will not increase Colorado gas prices

With Hurricane Florence making landfall in North Carolina, many people are wondering if the east coast hurricane will impact gas prices across the nation and here in Colorado.

Gas Prices Not Impacted

According to GasBuddy Expert Patrick Dehaan, Hurricane Florence will not impact gas prices nationally because there are zero medium or large refineries in the current path.

AAA also reports Hurricane Florence will have no impact on gas prices in Colorado, citing that the state mostly draws crude oil and petroleum primarily from Wyoming, Texas and Kansas.

Gas Prices to Decrease

This is not to say gas prices will not increase, it just means the increase would be unrelated to the hurricane. However, gas prices are predicted to fall according to Triple-A.

Triple-A predicts that prices will drop to around $2.70/gallon on average in Colorado by October, that’s about 17 cents less a gallon compared to mid-September and more than a quarter cheaper than May’s recorded high.

Hurricane Florence Shortages

As of Friday morning, a little over 20 percent of gas stations were currently out of gas in North Carolina. South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia were also seeing gas shortages as well.

Gas experts say a spike in prices in the affected area is likely, however, the prices are not predicted to rise more than 10 cents a gallon.
