World’s largest collection of Olympic torches and prize medals comes to Colorado Springs
Colorado Springs now holds the world’s largest collection of Olympic torches and prize medals.
History Made possible by a private donor
Gordy Crawford, an Olympic collector and President of the Olympic and Paralympic Foundation, donated the medals and torches, some of which date all the way back to 1896. Crawford donated the historic pieces to the United States Olympic Committee.
Crawford donated his complete collection of Olympic torches from the very first torch run in Berlin in 1936 all the way to the present. The donation also includes gold, silver and bronze prize and participation medals from every game starting in 1896, the very first modern Olympic games.
Crawford even donated his favorite medal from 1932 the Lake Placid Winter Games.
You will be able to see the historic medals and torches yourself
In a few years, the public will be able to see the medals and torches at the new Olympic Museum.
The USOC will loan the collection to the Olympic Museum as soon as the museum opens in 2020.
