Colorado Springs woman fights red light camera ticket

One woman says she incorrectly received a ticket originating from a red light camera. The ticket claims she ran a red light in Sheridan, but the woman said she was at home in Colorado Springs during the time of the violation.

Angie Austin was sent pictures from the red light camera as proof she ran a red light back in June. However, Austin says there are major problems with the photos.

The pictures Austin was sent show a man in the car. The car shown had a handicap sticker, Austin’s car does not and the license plate number is different than hers.

Austin also drives a Honda, the ticket was issued for a 2002 Volkswagen and the picture she was provided is of a Buick.

Austin said she contacted the police department and they told her they can’t fo anything and she has to pay for the ticket.

“He said ‘well, maybe your neighbor had the car that day or your friend, you know or whatever’ and I said, ‘Absolutely not! Besides I don’t own a Buick,” Austin said.

Austin said mistakes like these make her wary of red light cameras and says she plans to go back to Sheridan to try and fight her case.

The city of Sheridan said red light tickets are handled through the municipal court administrator. The city also said a police officer acknowledged her complaint and found it to be valid. The issue was brought forward to a municipal court administrator Tuesday, and the ticket was dismissed.
