Fire at NE Colorado Springs apartment injures 2

Two people were injured after their apartment caught fire late Sunday night in northeast Colorado Springs.

It happened in the 1100 block of Westmoreland Dr., but it’s not yet clear what started the fire. Colorado Springs police officers happened to smell the smoke while on a call nearby, and they rushed into the building to evacuate people inside.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department extinguished the flames and let the smoke ventilate out throughout the morning.

No firefighters reported any injuries, the two people that were injured were treated and released.

Fire investigators confirmed the fire was accidental and was caused by a faulty charger and/or battery combination for RC and drone aircraft.
