1 dead, two others taken to hospital after crash at Academy and Woodmen

UPDATE: Colorado Springs police identified the man killed in a wreck that shut down Academy and Woodmen late Monday night.

Police say Benjamin Curley, 32, was driving west on Woodmen when he ran a red light and struck a pickup truck that was turning left onto Academy. Police said excessive speed was also a factor.

Curley was killed in the crash and two people in the pickup truck were injured and taken to the hospital.

The crash is still under investigation, but police say no charges are expected. CSPD said Curley’s death marked the 37th traffic fatality in the Springs so far this year — at this point last year, there were 27 traffic fatalities.
