2 people, 1 dog killed after fire southeast of Cotopaxi

Firefighters responded to a blaze in rural Fremont County that killed at least two people and a dog Monday afternoon.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. at the 1300 block of 34th Trail in rural Cotopaxi, according to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office. ( MAP ) While crews were working to extinguish the flames, deputies “determined there were fatalities involved in this fire.”

The Colorado Bureau of Investigations and the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Unit are gathering clues and looking into the cause of the fire and the deaths.

The sheriff’s office says any identification of victims will come after an autopsy scheduled later this week.
