1 dead, 2 injured in rollover crash near Stonewall

Colorado State Patrol identified the person killed Saturday when an SUV flipped over after losing control on a hill in south Las Animas County.

It happened when 83-year-old Joe Giron was driving a Ford Explorer Sport Trac north on Las Animas County Road 13, according to CSP. That’s when he lost control of the vehicle on a hillcrest just south of Stonewall. ( MAP )

The Explorer slammed into a fence before rolling one and a half times.

CSP says neither Giron nor his two passengers were wearing seat belts. Giron was ejected from the SUV and was pronounced dead at the scene; the other two passengers were injured in the crash.

State patrol says alcohol is suspected to be a factor. The crash is still under investigation.
