Two killed in shootout with police in Alamosa

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting, that left two suspects dead in Alamosa County. The shooting began with the pursuit of a stolen vehicle in Saguache County just before 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Saguache County deputies tried to contact the driver and passenger of a stolen Jeep Patriot in the town of Moffat. A pursuit was initiated by deputies, and later joined by a Colorado State Patrol trooper and an Alamosa County deputy. The female passenger of the Jeep, brandished a shotgun during the course of the pursuit, that traveled along several county roads. A CSP sergeant successfully deployed stop sticks on Colorado Highway 17 at the Highway 112 junction, near the Saguache/Alamosa county line. When the stolen Jeep came to a stop in the middle of Highway 17, the driver and passenger both got out of the vehicle, with the shotgun, and headed towards another vehicle. The CSP trooper fired multiple rounds toward the suspects, and at least one of the suspects fired back. It’s believed the male suspect, who had been driving the stolen Jeep, shot himself. Both suspects were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no injuries to law enforcement. The CSP trooper’s name is not being released at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.
