Study: Colorado Springs is 5th most affordable college town in U.S.

This might raise a few eyebrows considering many locals’ perspective on the cost of living in Colorado Springs, but a new study by a moving company says the city is the fifth most affordable college town in the entire country.

Move.org released the report this week ranking the 25 most affordable college towns, and the Springs is lauded by the website for our beautiful views and the fact that our median rent is far cheaper than Denver’s. It also weighed in travel costs and entertainment prices — measured by the price of a half-liter of beer and the price of a movie ticket — in the final rankings.

But of the top 10, only one city has a median monthly rent that’s more expensive than Colorado Springs’ $975: Syracuse, NY, at $1,100.

One of the other factors in the study was the average cost of tuition, and that statistic may have been skewed by the fact that thousands of cadets at the Air Force Academy technically pay nothing for tuition in exchange for a term of service.
