Air quality advisory issued for southeastern Colorado due to wildfire smoke

An air quality health advisory was issued for southeastern Colorado Tuesday morning.

The advisory comes after widespread smoke from several fires in western states and western Canada. The smoke is predicted to decrease later Tuesday afternoon.

Affected areas:

Elbert El Paso Lincoln Kit Carson Cheyenne Pueblo Crowley Kiowa Otero Bent Prowers Las Animas Baca Eastern parts of Fremont and Huerfano counties

Kiowa Colorado Springs Hugo Burlington Cheyenne Wells Pueblo Ordway Eads La Junta Las Animas Lamar Trinidad Springfield Canon City Walsenburg

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment advises people to stay inside during the advisory, especially for people with heart disease, respiratory illnesses, very young children and elderly people.

Officials say that if visibility is less than five miles in smoke in your neighborhood, smoke has reached levels that are unhealthy.
