Flooding, washed-out bridge, stranded drivers after heavy rain in Pikes Peak Region

We can’t seem to catch a break from the destructive weather.

Friday, heavy rain across the Pikes Peak region caused severe flooding, stranding residents and drivers.

The median at Interstate 25 at Exit 119 was filled with water, and it even flooded the road for a short time. Traffic was backed up for miles.

The rushing water even took out a bridge in Hanover at Boca Raton Heights and Indian Village Heights, but it reopened by 10:30 p.m. Drivers still need to be cautious because there is only one lane open. Crews will be back on Saturday to assess and make further repairs.

Staff and students were stranded for a time at Prairie Heights Elementary School and Hanover Junior/Senior High School because of the washed-out roads.

Remember, this is the area south of Pikes Peak International Raceway and West of I-25, the same area that experienced wildfire earlier this summer.
