Motorcyclist killed, passenger injured in crash near Penrose

One person is dead after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing Friday on Highway 115 about six miles north of Penrose.

The crash was reported at about 4 p.m. The Colorado State Patrol tells us 53-year-old John Podhirny of Pueblo West was driving his motorcycle north when he drifted too far into the southbound lanes during a curve.

The motorcycle rolled and threw Podhirny and his passenger off before striking an SUV going south.

CSP says he wasn’t wearing a helmet and was killed at the scene; but the passenger on the bike, 40-year-old Jennifer Podhirny, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the SUV was uninjured.

CSP is still investigating. The highway was reopened Friday evening.
