Lightning sparks two house fires in Colorado Springs

Two small fires were started by lightning within a half-hour of each other as thunderstorms passed over Colorado Springs and briefly brought hail and heavy rain Friday afternoon.

The first fire was reported in the 5100 block of 7 Oaks Dr. ( MAP ) Firefighters said the fire was contained to the attic before being extinguished. One person was inside, but no one was injured.

Fifteen minutes later, another house fire was called out nearby in the 1500 block of Mt. Woodmen Ct. (MAP) The Colorado Springs Fire Department found a small fire in the attic had also spread to a wall before being extinguished. No one was injured in that fire.
