Colorado Springs daycare operator arrested after no-show at court

After failing to show up for a court hearing, the Colorado Springs woman accused of running an unlicensed daycare inside a drug house was taken back into custody, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Anna Brimm was due in court Thursday for her advisement after she posted bond following her arrest this past weekend. But Brimm didn’t show up, so a bench warrant was issued for her arrest.

Brimm is charged with kidnapping, child abuse, and a long list of drug charges after a standoff at the house near Constitution and Academy Blvd. A child was being held inside the house during the standoff, but the child is presently OK.

The sheriff’s office says Brimm was arrested. It’s not clear if she’ll be granted another bond.

The operator of an unlicensed daycare in Colorado Springs is facing felony charges after a drug bust this past weekend.

Anna Brimm is charged with kidnapping, child abuse, and a long list of drug charges.

The drug bust started Friday evening with a welfare check and escalated into a standoff. It finally ended with police finding $35,000 worth of drugs inside. Court documents reveal heroin, meth, and hundreds of prepackaged prescription pills all found at the home near Constitution and Academy. The documents also reveal Brimm had multiple warrants for her arrest related to drug charges. The drugs were being stored in the same place where Brimm ran an unlicensed child daycare center.

During the standoff, a child was being held captive inside the house as authorities were looking for Brimm. We spoke to the child’s mother, who asked to remain anonymous. She says when she arrived at the home to pick up her two-year-old son, a police officer was at the front door.

She started texting Brimm, who the mother knew as Sarah Richmond, about where she and her son were. Brimm said they were not at the house despite her car being in the driveway. After about 30 minutes of texting, her son was taken outside by Dirk Kilgore, who was also arrested.

The mother said her son was okay, “He was screaming and crying, but as soon as we got him he was totally fine.”

Brimm has taken care of the mother’s son for almost a year. She says within that time, she never saw anything suspicious. “It seemed totally normal. She has helped us out a lot actually. Just would have never would have expected that she would have $35,000 worth of drugs in her house.”

When she realized what was happening and heard about the drugs being stored at the daycare, she couldn’t believe it, “You hear about these stories on Facebook of things like this but you never think it could be you.”

Natacia Conner is another mother who used to take her child to Tiny Toes Daycare. She says when she first met Brimm, who introduced herself as Ash Lee, she seemed very nice and professional. Then Conner says things seemed to get suspicious.”I just didn’t feel right dropping her off their anymore, Conner says, “She said she was licensed but wouldn’t provide any proof.

Neighbors say they didn’t even know there was a child daycare center a few houses down from them. Saying they thought their neighborhood was safe.

Brimm posted bail and was released from jail.
