Trinidad woman arrested in connection with killing near Aguilar

A woman from Trinidad is facing multiple felony charges and is the second person arrested in connection with a homicide that happened in May near Aguilar.

According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, 47-year-old Angela Waln was arrested last week in Trinidad after 39-year-old Burchard Mitchell was found dead on May 9 near a county road two miles west of Aguilar. We still don’t know what led to Mitchell’s death or how he was killed.

Waln was charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree kidnapping, and other drug charges not related to Mitchell’s murder, according to the CBI.

Back in May, we reported when one suspect, 20-year-old Domenic Damelio of Trinidad, was arrested for first-degree and second-degree murder. Police said Damelio was the one responsible for killing Mitchell.

Waln and Damelio are being held at the Las Animas County Detention Facility.
