Man fled minor crash before fatal crash in SE Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs police responded to a wreck that killed one man at Circle and Hancock Monday morning after the driver left another crash.

Police say the vehicle was involved in a smaller traffic accident near S. Circle Drive and Interstate 25. The man, who hasn’t been identified yet, fled the scene going north and tried to take the exit ramp to Hancock Expressway, but he lost control during the turn.

The vehicle left the road, went across the median and struck a light pole, then continued east over the entrance ramp into a drainage ditch. The man died at the scene.

One dog was inside the vehicle and was taken to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region for treatment.

The crash blocked the northbound Circle ramp to Hancock and the northbound on-ramp from Delta/Hancock. Traffic was diverted through neighborhood streets.

Police say it’s not clear if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash and that officers are still investigating.
