Man recovering after getting shot in parking lot in Cimmaron Hills

A man is recovering Sunday after being shot in the parking lot of a town home in Cimarron Hills. It happened in a parking lot near Peterson and Palmer Park early Sunday morning. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says the call originally came in as two teens shooting a 56-year-old man in the upper leg, but they’re still investigating whether it’s true. Many neighbors say they had no idea it had happened. Jared Watkins lives just a few doors down and moved in weeks ago. He says he is still getting to know his neighbors, but learning someone was shot is something he never expected. “Very much scares us, she walks up here by herself and we’re just going to get a roommate here in a second and that’s scary you know? Bringing someone else into our home knowing that that’s right around the corner,” he said. Though some neighbors believe it may be a rare occurrence, they’re still on high alert. The sheriff’s office says they’re still investigating the shooting and had little information they could share. We spoke with the victim’s family, but they declined to talk on camera.
