Woman arrested for neglecting horses, dogs in El Paso County

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of neglected animals north of Black Forest Wednesday and made an arrest Friday after finding several of them dead.

Deputies with the Rural Enforcement and Outreach Unit, along with the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region and Bureau of Animal Protection Agents, searched a property on Stockholm Grove ( MAP ) and found seven neglected horses and three dead dogs, according to the sheriff’s office. Authorities are still working to determine the dogs’ cause of death.

On Friday, the sheriff’s office arrested Mindy Danskin, 39, for three felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and seven misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals neglect/mistreat.

The conditions of the horses weren’t released, but the sheriff’s office said they were taken to a boarding facility and are being treated medically.
