Pueblo West has a new leading man

Bearing a heavy heart but a clear mind, Clint Buderus left ten years at La Junta for Pueblo West, “I think this is one of the best jobs in the state and something I couldn’t pass up, something I felt like I had to do for my career and my family,” says Buderus.

Right away the Cyclone seniors notices a difference in the weight room and on the field, “I think our efforts gonna be way better this year, honestly. It’s just way different, he’s changed everything, it’s faster paced. We don’t come out here and run plays, we lift and get better,” says senior left tackle Gavin Howard.

One of the new features at practice, the county fair, a grueling gauntlet of conditioning, “A lot of people have puked, yea,” says Howard. “Fast paced coach. He really likes to move, do everything on the move, weight lifting-wise the pace is just, it skyrocketed. It’s crazy how fast we moved,” says senior linebacker Martin Trujillo.

Buderus knew he needed to get the seniors on board with his methods if the team was going to be successful, so he put down the whistle and talked, “He understands us more, he gets the vibe that we have and so like it’s easier to communicate with him and makes everything like running plays and understanding our traditions, or whatever. Just our communication’s way better,” says Trujillo.

Now, he feels ready to take on the challenges of being the Pueblo West football coach, “You want high standards you want a football school you want a football town, pueblo is a football town, you want the pressure, that’s how I see it at least. You want those things,” says Buderus.
