Tuesday was all about picking up the pieces and it wasn’t just civilians, even the Army was no match for Monday’s weather.

The damage was so bad on Fort Carson non-mission essential personnel were able to go home early Tuesday to avoid any further damage to their property.

Col. Brian Wortinger, Fort Carson Garrison Commander said virtually every person that was on base Monday had some sort of damage.

Cars, trees, and buildings were all damaged, the Mountain Post Soldier Center had to be closed Monday for repairs, but is planned to be back open Wednesday.

Adding police, fire and emergency services fleet have damage now too as they were responding to the storm.

“Many of them sustained heavy damage and are going to have to be repaired or even just replaced,” Wortinger said.

Wortinger said his public works department is working to assess the damage on post and will continue to do so over the next month.
