Victim identified after fatal auto-pedestrian crash in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs police identified the woman who was killed after being hit by a car in an intersection last Sunday.

Police say Marjorie Mestas, 36, was walking across the street at S. Academy Blvd. and Hancock Expressway when she was hit by a blue sedan going north on Academy. The sedan had a green light, according to witnesses at the scene.

Mestas was taken to the hospital and died Thursday.

CSPD says no charges are expected in the case.

A woman is in serious condition following an auto-pedestrian crash in Colorado Springs.

It happened near the intersection of Hancock and Academy just before noon on Sunday.

The Major Accident Unit has taken over the investigation due to the seriousness of the injuries. The investigation has revealed that a blue sedan was traveling northbound on S. Academy Blvd. when it struck the woman who was attempting to cross S. Academy at the intersection with Hancock Expressway.

According to witnesses on the scene, the sedan had a green light. No charges have been filed in the case and the investigation is ongoing.

Speed, drugs and alcohol are not factors in the crash.
