Salvation Army sponsors students for back to school shopping

sIt’s time to get ready for school, that means buying supplies and clothes. But there are some kids whose families need help paying for it that’s why the salvation army is stepping in.

Kids arrive by the bus load, ready to go shopping for clothes. It wasn’t long before 107 kids were making their way through the store. “Hmm lets see what I want,” said 9-year-old Mila Williams. Each child is given $100 to spend on whatever they want. So every dollar counts. “Oh my god I really like this one and it’s like 9 dollars,” said Shaylee Innes. The money is collected by the salvation army through donations. Williams is going into 4th grade and knows exactly what she’s looking for. Whether or not it’s her size. “If I don’t fit in it, I’ll grow not it,” she said. She’s not the only one on a mission. Innes is getting ready to start sixth grade, naturally she needs the essentials. “I have never found a pair of jeans that fit me so like it was kind of cool because I really liked them, they were ripped jeans,” Innes said. And she has an extra hand. “Everyone gets assigned another person to help them with calculating how much everything is,” Innes said. By the end of the day these kids have new shoes, dresses, and even school supplies all donated just for them.
