Fremont County needs candidates for temporary Sheriff job

Fremont County needs a new sheriff for just a few months, so commissioners put out an open call for applicants who aren’t looking for a long-term commitment.

That’s because current Sheriff Jim Beicker announced that he’s resigning effective Sept. 1 , but his term lasts until his yet-to-be-elected successor takes over in early January.

Fremont County Commissioners sent out a news release Thursday seeking “qualified and interested persons” to be appointed. Once appointed to the office, that person will serve as sheriff from Sept. 1–or as soon as possible after that date–until Jan. 8, 2019.

The commissioners don’t say previous law enforcement experience is required, but you’ll need peace officer certification. You’ll also need to be a Fremont County resident and able to pass a criminal background check.

If you want to apply, send a letter of interest with a brief statement of qualifications to:
Fremont County Board of County Commissioners
615 Macon Avenue, Room 105
Cañon City, CO 81212

Applications are due by Aug. 16.
