District 49 teachers and parents prepare for first day of school
The first day of school in Southern Colorado is officially Thursday, starting with District 49. But parents of kindergarteners at Springs Ranch Elementary said goodbye to their kids Wednesday, as the school held an orientation day for the new students.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing my friends in my class,” said one student.
But parents felt more of a bitter-sweet reaction to the first day of school, many of them leaving their young ones behind.
“I mean, it’s exciting, but he’s also been my little one that’s been around for so long, so we’ll miss him,” said mother Nancy Malan who drops off her kindergartener.
Many of these parents have been preparing their kids for the school year to start; putting them to bed early, waking them up early, getting them into the routine.
Teachers are also prepared… making sure their classrooms are ready for your kids.
“I’m very excited but I also have the little jitters too,” says Springs Ranch Elementary 4th grade teacher Nancy Leaser.
She gives the kids and parents some advice before the first day of school.
“Come ready for school. Get a good night’s sleep, make sure you have a good breakfast and then we’ll take care of everything else here at school.”
School starts officially for District 49 on Thursday.
