Colorado Springs driver arrested for ‘intentionally’ driving into a man during road rage incident

A man has suffered potentially life-threatening injuries after police say he was intentionally hit standing on the side of the I-25 during a road rage incident in Colorado Springs.

Colorado Springs police say Alan Du is charged with first-degree assault after witnesses say they saw him purposefully run his car into a 25-year-old victim on the off-ramp of I-25 and Nevada. The victim parked his car trying to wave down Du when, according to court documents, he accelerated toward the victim and hitting him. Du then drove away from the scene and was arrested at his home after witnesses reported his license plate. Officers believe this all stemmed from a road rage incident.

The victim is said to be okay despite his serious injuries. This is the most recent case of road rage in Colorado. Colorado State Patrol Captain Brian Lyons says the problem is only getting worse, “as we see road rage and aggressive driving is on the increase unfortunately in the state of Colorado,” Lyons says. So far this year CSP has received 194 road rage related calls. Most happen between Pueblo and Colorado Springs on I-25. Lyons adds that most of these incidents start with something simple, like a lane change taken the wrong way. “A lot of it is just misconception”, Lyons says, “an individual may make a lane change and forget to check their mirror and then they get into that issue of aggressive driving that they view that as someone cutting them off.”

It’s a growing problem and authorities are looking for solutions. In the end, it all starts with the decisions we all make behind the wheel.
