Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Strong Storms Possible – 7/28/18
Today: Partly cloudy with pockets of low cloud cover and patchy fog early this morning, scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely again this afternoon. The strongest thunderstorms could become severe this afternoon with large hail to over an inch in diameter and damaging wind gusts the primary threats, but isolated tornadoes are also possible over the plains. The threat for severe weather looks best over northern and eastern parts of our coverage area. Any strong storms today will also be capable of producing busts of heavy rain and frequent lightning. Expect high temperatures to reach the 80s to near 90 for the plains this afternoon with mainly 70s to near 80 over our local mountain communities, but the air will cool some as thunderstorms drift over the area.
Tonight: Scattered showers and thunderstorms will decrease this evening, then partly cloudy with some pockets of low cloud cover and/or patchy fog possible late. We expect to cool into the 50s and 60s by morning.
Extended: A weak cold front will reinforce the low level moisture and probably cool the air just a little on Sunday. Thunderstorms will remain numerous on Sunday and a few severe thunderstorms will be possible again. During the work week it does appear that storms will decrease in coverage, but we still expect isolated to scattered thunderstorms on a daily basis. The air should warm a little during the work week as the air dries a bit, but all things considered the weather looks typical for early August with morning sun and scattered afternoon thunderstorms.
