Communities in El Paso, Teller Counties affected by floods gear up for more rain
Rain hit the small community of Green Mountain Falls again, people prepared with sandbags.
But neighbors are still dealing with the aftermath of flash floods from earlier in the week.
“Came down my window well into my family room across the floor, into the bedroom, into the bathroom,” said Laveda Gjerstad.
Terri O’Keefe and her family continue digging sediment out of their yard. They’ve been going at it since Monday.
“It keeps raining you know, so it washes out. You do a little bit and you take one step forward and two steps back sometimes,” she said.
With rain hitting the area, the sandbags people put along their homes are coming in handy. Though it’s not as much rain as they were expecting.
“To divert the water that comes down and the mud so hopefully it’ll work,” O’Keefe said.
Because the creek runs through town, homes aren’t the only things that have been damaged.
Roads also have some erosion from the water.
“I could see Catamount Creek rising and eventually it just came up and you could not tell the creek from Belvidere Avenue,” said John Morgan who lives near the area.
Streets and bridges are still full of debris and mud, but neighbors have come together to help each other clean-up their community.
